- "From Basement to Studio" or "Furniture Art Isn’t Smart"--- As a little girl I would go downstairs into the basement of my Detroit home and draw and paint. My brother Bob would buy me all of this art stuff at Christmas time and not knowing what it exactly was I would experiment and work with it and figure it out. For instance I did not know the characteristics of acrylic paint but I just opened up the tubes and painted with the plastic gooey stuff. Eventually I discovered oils and fell in love with the rich, vibrant colors. I have not stopped painting ever since. Graduated with an MFA in painting from Wayne State University and have shown among other places at the Detroit Institute of Arts and Cranbrook. I have also taught art at various schools and universities but the bottom line for me is this: Life is good with a paint brush in my hand listening to the muse and looking at the colors on my palette. I am a painter not an illustrator. Its not about simply copying an object, person, place or thing. Its about putting myself into the work and using my intuition as well as compositional and color devices.
How much would this painting be? I've seen it in the city of Farmington hills building and am in love!
